Excellent!

his tour gives you the full experience of Colombia – a difficult history, resilient communities, and stunning natural beauty.

On the way to the start of the hike, our guide told us the history of the different towns we passed through, answering all our questions about the area, its landscapes, cultures, language and more. We arrived at the entrance, and as we hiked up, he began to tell us more about how Colombia’s violent past impacted the people and communities of the region, including the coffee farm ruins we were walking up to visit. Like so much of Colombia’s recent history, these are hard stories to hear and certainly make you appreciate even more so the unrelenting generosity and joy found in so much of Colombian culture and people.

The second half of the tour is a shorter hike through the forest to arrive at the stunning Monkey Falls, a series of short waterfalls and pools where we unpacked our snacks and relaxed for a while. Jota expertly set up a rope to help us climb up to the higher pool, and a quick swim in the ice-cold water is sure to re-energise you after the hike!

Our final stop was for lunch at the very popular roadside restaurant serving some of the area’s best tamales, vegetarian empanadas de iglesia and patacones, and of course delicious fresh juices.

Definitely don’t hesitate to take this tour if you’re staying at Riverside or Jericó – it’s an amazing way to learn, hike, swim, and try the regional food all in one incredible day!
